Bajaj Dominar 400 mileage and running cost
Claimed mileage 30 kmpl, real-world 28–31 kmpl. What it costs per km, per month and over five years.
Claimed vs real mileage
Dominar 400's claimed mileage is 30 kmpl, and unusually, owners and our own riding land right on it: expect 28–31 kmpl in everyday use. Few bikes get this close to their brochure figure.
Among the 67 sports bikes we have reviewed it ranks 57th for mileage, 12 kmpl below the group average of 42 kmpl.
At Delhi's petrol price of ₹94.80 a litre and a real-world 29.5 kmpl, the Dominar 400 costs about ₹3.21 per km in fuel. Ride 30 km a day and that is roughly ₹2,507 a month, or ₹30,079 a year, before servicing.
The 13-litre tank gives a realistic range of about 384 km, so a 30 km commute means a fill-up every 2 weeks.
Why the gap exists: claimed vs real-world mileage.
Monthly running cost by city
30 km a day, 26 days a month, at each city's current petrol price.
Five-year cost of ownership
Base variant bought in Delhi, 30 km a day. Servicing and insurance renewals are typical figures for the class.
- On-road purchase
- ₹2,37,200
- Fuel
- ₹1,50,395
- Servicing
- ₹30,000
- Insurance renewals
- ₹11,384
- Five-year total
- ₹4,28,979
Spread over five years and 46,800 km, the Dominar 400 works out to about ₹9.2 per km all-in, of which 35% is fuel and 55% is the purchase price itself. Resale value is not counted; expect roughly 50–60% of ex-showroom after five years for a well-kept example.
Getting the best mileage
The quickest wins for the Dominar 400: keep tyres at the recommended pressure (under-inflation by 5 psi can cost 2–3 kmpl), shift up early, use Eco mode in traffic and avoid idling at long signals.
Short trips hurt most. A cold engine on a 2 km run can return half its normal mileage; if that is your use, expect the low end of the real-world band.
Service on time. A clogged air filter or old spark plug shows up in mileage before it shows up anywhere else.
