Engine and ride

The torque and power figures are well balanced, so it neither needs to be revved hard nor feels lazy when you do.
Chassis hardware includes USD front forks, a rear monoshock, dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch and traction control, with a disc, 320 mm, 4 piston caliper up front and disc, 240 mm, 2 piston caliper at the rear.
The 820 mm seat is on the tall side. Riders under 5'6" should sit on one before buying.

The 390 Duke R is the sharpened version of KTM's mainstream naked, carrying the same 349cc engine tuned to 45.3bhp and dropping in fully adjustable WP APEX suspension, priced from ₹3,45,036. It is built for riders who want to actually use that adjustability.
Riding it every day
At 168.3kg and with a genuine 167kmph top speed, the 390 Duke R feels urgent in a way the standard Duke does not quite match, and the 4-piston front brake with Supermoto ABS inspires confidence under hard braking in city traffic. The fully adjustable suspension, a genuine rarity below ₹4 lakh, lets you dial in a firmer setup for weekend riding and back it off slightly for daily commuting, though even softened it stays on the firm side over speed breakers.
What to know before buying
Claimed mileage of 29kmpl, with real-world figures typically between 27 and 30kmpl, is in line with the segment rather than a highlight. The price gap over the standard 390 Duke, roughly ₹61,000, is worth weighing against how often you will actually use the adjustable suspension and sharper brakes.
