Engine and ride
The 249cc liquid-cooled engine makes 29.5 bhp and 25 Nm through a 6 Speed. With a kerb weight of 167.7 kg that is 176 bhp per tonne, 22th best power-to-weight of the 73 bikes in this class we have reviewed.
Peak power is high relative to torque, so this engine rewards revs: it feels ordinary below the mid-range and comes alive above it.
Chassis hardware includes USD front forks, a rear monoshock, single-channel ABS and a slipper clutch, with a disc, 320 mm, 2 piston caliper up front and disc, 230 mm, 1 piston caliper at the rear.
The 806 mm seat is on the tall side. Riders under 5'6" should sit on one before buying.

Verdict
The Xtreme 250R marks Hero's first serious attempt at a performance motorcycle above 200cc, and the spec sheet backs that ambition: a 249cc liquid-cooled engine making 29.5bhp, USD forks and a slipper clutch, all for ₹1.73 lakh. It is the most powerful bike in this lineup by a clear margin.
Riding it every day
The engine pulls strongly through the rev range, with a claimed 130kmph top speed that puts it ahead of every other bike covered here, and the slipper clutch keeps downshifts smooth during spirited riding. The 320mm front disc and USD forks inspire confidence under hard braking, useful given how quickly this bike can build speed. Real-world mileage of 33-37kmpl is, unsurprisingly, the lowest figure in this batch, the trade-off for that performance.
What to know before buying
ABS is switchable and single-channel rather than dual, a slightly unusual choice at this power level, so ride cautiously in the wet even with it engaged. There is also only one variant on offer at ₹1.73 lakh, so there is no cheaper way into this engine if the price feels steep.
Who should buy it
This suits riders who specifically want more power and track-adjacent handling than a typical 160-200cc bike offers, and who are comfortable with the fuel economy trade-off. Buyers wanting better efficiency or a gentler first big bike should consider the Xpulse 210 or Xtreme 160R 4V instead.
