The Versys 650 is rated at 19.4 kmpl (claimed mileage). Treat that as a ceiling: real-world figures are usually 15–25% lower.

Power comes from a 649cc single producing 65.7 bhp and 61 Nm, paired with a 6 Speed. At 218 kg the power-to-weight figure is 301 bhp per tonne, which ranks 49 of 135 in its class here.

The torque and power figures are well balanced, so it neither needs to be revved hard nor feels lazy when you do.

Chassis hardware includes USD front forks, dual-channel ABS and traction control, with a disc, 300 mm, 2 piston caliper up front and disc, 250 mm, 1 piston caliper at the rear.

The 845 mm seat is on the tall side. Riders under 5'6" should sit on one before buying.

On safety kit the Versys 650 has dual-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, traction control, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. Dual-channel ABS is the one item on this list worth paying for if it is variant-dependent.

Against GSX-8R, Versys 1100 or Multistrada V2, it gets bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation that most rivals skip.

What it lacks: slipper clutch and ride modes, which rivals at this price offer. None of these are deal-breakers, but they show where the money went.
