In short

The Tiger 1200 is Triumph's range-topping adventure tourer, powered by a 1160cc triple making 148bhp and priced from ₹19.39 lakh for the GT Pro. It suits riders planning genuine long-distance touring, two-up, on tarmac and gravel alike, but the trade-off is a 245kg kerb weight that turns tight U-turns and off-road recoveries into real work.

What works

  • 148bhp triple with a broad, usable spread of torque
  • Semi-active Showa suspension adapts to load and terrain
  • Dual-channel ABS with cornering traction control as standard
  • Colour TFT dash with turn-by-turn navigation on every trim

What doesn't

  • 245kg kerb weight makes low-speed balance demanding
  • ₹19.39 lakh entry price sits above the BMW F 900 GS Adventure
  • 850mm seat height rules out flat-footing for shorter riders

Best for: Long-distance touring, Two-up highway riding, Upgraders from mid-size ADVs

Mileage

The Tiger 1200 is rated at 18 kmpl (claimed mileage). Treat that as a ceiling: real-world figures are usually 15–25% lower.

Engine and ride

The 1160cc liquid-cooled engine makes 148 bhp and 130 Nm through a 6 Speed. With a kerb weight of 245 kg that is 604 bhp per tonne, 4th best power-to-weight of the 33 bikes in this class we have reviewed.

The torque and power figures are well balanced, so it neither needs to be revved hard nor feels lazy when you do.

Chassis hardware includes USD front forks, a rear monoshock, dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch and traction control, with a disc, 320 mm, 4 piston caliper up front and disc, 282 mm, 1 piston caliper at the rear.

The 850 mm seat is on the tall side. Riders under 5'6" should sit on one before buying.

Verdict

The Tiger 1200 is Triumph's flagship adventure tourer, built to compete with the BMW R1300GS on typically Indian long-haul routes. A 1160cc triple, semi-active Showa suspension and cornering ABS put it near the top of the class, but the 245kg kerb weight and prices from ₹19.39 lakh to ₹22.29 lakh mean it rewards committed touring riders more than occasional weekend users.

Riding it every day

In city traffic the weight shows up at every light and roundabout; this is not a bike you thread through Bangalore or Mumbai jams without planning your lines carefully. On the open highway it settles into its element, with the semi-active suspension smoothing broken tarmac and speed breakers far better than a fixed setup would. The 20-litre tank and typically-quoted 18kmpl should be good for over 300km between fuel stops, useful on long inter-city rides where service stations thin out.

What to know before buying

Triumph's Indian dealer network covers most metros and highway routes but is thinner than Honda's or Royal Enfield's, so plan service stops around authorised centres before a long tour. The 850mm seat height needs a reasonable inseam, and parts for the electronically adjusted suspension will typically cost more to replace than conventional forks if anything goes wrong outside warranty.

Who should buy it

Riders moving up from a 650-900cc ADV who tour two-up regularly, carry luggage, and want electronics to back up the bigger engine. Anyone whose typical ride is a 50km commute or an occasional trail outing will likely find a Tiger 900 or a smaller ADV a better fit for the money.

Features

  • Dual-channel ABS
  • Front disc brake
  • Rear disc brake
  • Tubeless tyres
  • Alloy wheels
  • Traction control
  • Side-stand engine cut-off
  • Hazard lamps
  • USD front forks
  • Rear monoshock
  • +11 more

On safety kit the Tiger 1200 has dual-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, traction control, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. Dual-channel ABS is the one item on this list worth paying for if it is variant-dependent.

Against R1300GS, F 900 GS Adventure or DesertX, it gets alloy wheels that most rivals skip.

What it lacks: projector headlamp, which rivals at this price offer. None of these are deal-breakers, but they show where the money went.

It is offered in 12 colours: Lucerne Blue (Pro), Sapphire Black (Pro), Snowdonia White (Pro), Lucerne Blue (Explorer), Sapphire Black (Explorer), Snowdonia White (Explorer), Matt Khaki Green (Rally Pro), Sapphire Black (Rally Pro), Snowdonia White (Rally Pro), Matt Khaki Green (Rally Explorer), Sapphire Black (Rally Explorer) and Snowdonia White (Rally Explorer). Colour availability varies by variant and dealer stock.

Warranty, service and ownership

Standard warranty is 3 years, unlimited km.

Triumph runs a limited sales and service network in India, at roughly 150 touchpoints. Check the nearest workshop before buying if you live outside a metro; a 40 km ride for every service adds up.

On sale since 2022, the Tiger 1200 is established enough that early production issues have been worked through and used examples give a fair read on resale.

Tiger 1200: questions people ask

What is the price of the Triumph Tiger 1200?
The Tiger 1200 costs between ₹19,39,000 and ₹22,29,000 ex-showroom Delhi across 4 variants, as of September 2026. On-road price adds road tax, registration and insurance and varies by state.
What is the on-road price of the Tiger 1200 in Delhi?
About ₹22.9 Lakh for the base variant in Delhi: ₹19,39,000 ex-showroom plus ₹1,66,120 in Delhi road tax and registration and ₹82,975 for first-year insurance, with ₹1,01,655 of dealer charges. Figure from dealer quotes, updated monthly; handling and accessory packs can add more.
What is the mileage of the Tiger 1200?
Claimed mileage is 18 kmpl. Real-world figures are usually 15–25% lower.
How much does the Tiger 1200 cost to run per month?
Fuel works out to about ₹5.27 per km in Delhi, so a 30 km daily commute costs roughly ₹4,108 a month before servicing.
What is the EMI for the Tiger 1200?
With 10% down, a 36-month loan at 9.5% on the base variant comes to about ₹61,490 a month. A shorter tenure raises the EMI but cuts total interest; see the EMI calculator on the price page.
What is the engine capacity and power of the Tiger 1200?
It uses a 1160cc engine producing 148 bhp and 130 Nm, with a 6 speed.
Is the Tiger 1200 suitable for short riders?
It is on the tall side at 850 mm. Riders under 5'6" may be on tiptoe at stops and should try it before buying.
Tiger 1200 or R1300GS: which is better?
The R1300GS is ₹4,10,945 more expensive to start and more efficient at 21 kmpl against 18 kmpl. Pick the Tiger 1200 for long-distance touring, the R1300GS for long-distance touring. Our side-by-side comparison covers every spec.
Which bikes are cheaper than the Tiger 1200?
Among the 33 adventure bikes we have reviewed, the Adventure (₹2.08 Lakh), the Xpulse 200 4V (₹1.45 Lakh), the Himalayan 450 (₹3.08 Lakh) start lower.
Is the Tiger 1200 too tall and heavy for a shorter rider?
At 850mm seat height and 245kg kerb weight, expect to need a reasonable inseam and some upper-body strength for U-turns and paddling at a standstill. The low centre of gravity from the semi-active suspension helps once moving, but this isn't a natural first big bike for someone under about 5 ft 6 in.
Can the Tiger 1200 carry a pillion comfortably on a highway run?
Yes, the wheelbase and suspension travel are built for two-up touring, and the panniers-ready GT and Explorer trims are aimed at exactly this use. Expect the extra weight to blunt acceleration slightly and reduce real-world mileage from the claimed 18kmpl.
