Triumph Speed 400

There is only one Speed 400 to buy, priced at ₹2,34,302 ex-showroom in Delhi. The only decisions left are colour and whether to finance it.

That makes it priced 66th lowest among the 137 sports bikes we have reviewed. Its closest price rivals are the RC 200 (₹2,389 less) and the R2 (₹2,806 less).

On the road in Delhi the base Speed 400 comes to ₹2.67 Lakh: ₹2,34,140 ex-showroom, ₹20,231 in Delhi road tax and registration (8.6%), ₹12,821 for first-year insurance. Dealers add handling and accessory packs on top; both are negotiable.

Speed 400's claimed mileage is 28 kmpl, and unusually, owners and our own riding land right on it: expect 26–29 kmpl in everyday use. Few bikes get this close to their brochure figure.

Among the 114 sports bikes we have reviewed it ranks 67th for mileage, 5 kmpl below the group average of 33 kmpl.

Power comes from a 349cc single producing 36.49 bhp and 32 Nm, paired with a 6 Speed. At 179 kg the power-to-weight figure is 204 bhp per tonne, which ranks 72 of 135 in its class here.

The torque and power figures are well balanced, so it neither needs to be revved hard nor feels lazy when you do.

Chassis hardware includes USD front forks, a rear monoshock, dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch and traction control, with a disc, 300 mm, 4 piston caliper up front and disc, 230 mm, 1 piston caliper at the rear.

At 803 mm the seat is average for the class; most riders from 5'5" up will be comfortable at stops.

On safety kit the Speed 400 has dual-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, traction control, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. Dual-channel ABS is the one item on this list worth paying for if it is variant-dependent.

Against Speed T4, Himalayan 440 or Scrambler 400 X, it gets traction control, hazard lamps and usd front forks that most rivals skip.

It is offered in 4 colours: Racing Red / Pearl Metallic White, Pearl Metallic White / Pewter Grey, Phantom Black / Pewter Grey and Racing Yellow / Pearl Metallic White. Colour availability varies by variant and dealer stock.

Standard warranty is 2 years, unlimited km.

Service reach is the weak point: Triumph has about 150 dealer and workshop touchpoints across the country. Confirm there is one within reach before you sign.

The Speed 400 launched in 2026, so long-term reliability and resale data are still thin. That is not a mark against it, just a reason to prefer the standard warranty and keep service records.
