Engine and ride
The 100cc air-cooled engine makes 4.3 bhp and 6.5 Nm through a CVT automatic. With a kerb weight of 88 kg that is 49 bhp per tonne, 24th best power-to-weight of the 25 scooters in this class we have reviewed.
Torque is high relative to peak power, which is what you want for pulling away with a pillion and riding a gear higher in traffic rather than chasing the redline.
At 787 mm the seat is average for the class; most riders from 5'5" up will be comfortable at stops.

Verdict
The XL 100 Heavy Duty is the most affordable vehicle in this entire batch, starting from just ₹47,918 for the kick-start variant, and it makes no pretence of being anything other than a basic utility runabout. A claimed 57kmpl and 88kg kerb weight are its strongest numbers, while the 4.3bhp output and drum-only brakes are the clear costs of that low price.
Riding it every day
At 88kg it's the lightest vehicle here, easy to push, park and manoeuvre even when loaded with goods. The 58kmph top speed and modest power keep it firmly suited to short, local trips rather than any kind of highway or flyover use. Suspension is basic but adequate for typical broken roads at the low speeds this vehicle is meant to run at.
What to know before buying
The real-world mileage band of 53-59kmpl in the brief is close to the claimed 57kmpl, so this is one of the more believable mileage claims in the batch. The 3-year, 36,000km warranty and 4-litre tank mean more frequent refuelling and a shorter cover period than TVS's commuter bikes, worth factoring into a long-term ownership decision.
Who should buy it
This is for a buyer whose primary need is the lowest possible upfront cost for short, low-speed utility trips, ideally with the alloy wheel or i-Touch Start variant if a small budget increase is workable.
