In short

The FZ X takes the same 149cc, 12.2bhp engine and dresses it in scrambler-inspired styling with a taller stance, starting at ₹1.27 lakh. It's for riders who want a more rugged, upright look than the standard FZ, accepting a slightly heavier 139kg kerb weight and taller 810mm seat in exchange.

Price and variants

Ex-showroom Delhi. On-road estimate for Delhi; other cities on the price page.

The FZ X is sold in 2 variants, from ₹1,26,538 for the Standard to ₹1,34,871 for the Dark Matte Blue Purple, ex-showroom Delhi.

That makes it priced 20th lowest among the 75 sports bikes we have reviewed. Its closest price rivals are the Pulsar NS160 (₹281 more) and the FZ Blue Flex (₹436 less).

On the road in Delhi, budget about ₹1.44 Lakh for the base variant once 8% Delhi road tax, registration and five-year third-party insurance are added. Dealers often quote higher by bundling accessories, extended warranty and handling charges; all three are negotiable.

Mileage

FZ X's claimed mileage is 47 kmpl, and unusually, owners and our own riding land right on it: expect 44–49 kmpl in everyday use. Few bikes get this close to their brochure figure.

Among the 67 sports bikes we have reviewed it ranks 18th for mileage, 5 kmpl above the group average of 42 kmpl.

Engine and ride

The 149cc air-cooled engine makes 12.2 bhp and 13.3 Nm through a 5 Speed. With a kerb weight of 139 kg that is 88 bhp per tonne, 67th best power-to-weight of the 73 bikes in this class we have reviewed.

The torque and power figures are well balanced, so it neither needs to be revved hard nor feels lazy when you do.

Chassis hardware includes a rear monoshock, single-channel ABS and traction control, with a disc, 282 mm, 2 piston caliper up front and disc, 220 mm, 1 piston caliper at the rear.

The 810 mm seat is on the tall side. Riders under 5'6" should sit on one before buying.

Verdict

The FZ X dresses the familiar 149cc, 12.2bhp FZ engine in scrambler-inspired styling with a taller stance and extra ground clearance, starting at ₹1.27 lakh. It trades a little of the standard FZ's agility for road presence and a more rugged look, appealing to buyers who want to stand out.

Riding it every day

At 165mm, ground clearance comfortably clears most speed breakers and potholes without the scraping some naked bikes suffer on Indian roads. The 810mm seat height is tall relative to the standard FZ, worth testing if you're on the shorter side. Real-world mileage of 44-49kmpl trails the FZS V4 slightly, likely due to the extra kerb weight and different aerodynamics. The projector LED headlamp genuinely helps visibility on unlit roads at night.

What to know before buying

Bluetooth connectivity comes standard from the base variant, unlike some FZ trims, useful for call and message alerts while riding. Despite the scrambler looks, the FZ X keeps road tyres and standard suspension travel, so it isn't built for genuine off-roading, only rougher city streets. Yamaha's service network treats it the same as other FZ models for parts and maintenance.

Who should buy it

Riders who want a distinctive, upright naked bike for daily city riding and don't mind a taller seat height will like the FZ X. Shorter riders or those prioritising outright efficiency over styling should look at the standard FZS V4 instead.

Features and colours

  • Single-channel ABS
  • Front disc brake
  • Rear disc brake
  • Tubeless tyres
  • Alloy wheels
  • Traction control
  • Side-stand engine cut-off
  • Hazard lamps
  • Rear monoshock
  • LED headlamp
  • +7 more

On safety kit the FZ X has single-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, traction control, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. ABS acts on the front wheel only; the rear can still lock under a hard stamp.

Against FZ X Hybrid, Pulsar NS160 or Gixxer, it gets traction control and projector headlamp that most rivals skip.

What it lacks: turn-by-turn navigation, which rivals at this price offer. None of these are deal-breakers, but they show where the money went.

It is offered in 3 colours: Metallic Black, Dark Matte Blue and Dark Matte Blue Purple. Colour availability varies by variant and dealer stock.

Warranty, service and ownership

Standard warranty is 2 years or 30,000 km. After the free services, the recommended interval is every 3,000 km.

Yamaha runs a sizeable sales and service network in India, at roughly 2,500 touchpoints. Spares and a mechanic who knows the model are rarely far away.

On sale since 2021, the FZ X is established enough that early production issues have been worked through and used examples give a fair read on resale.

What is the mileage of the FZ X?
Claimed mileage is 47 kmpl. Owners typically see 44–49 kmpl in mixed city and highway riding.

At 810mm, shorter riders will typically need to tip-toe at a standstill, so it's worth sitting on one before buying if you're on the shorter side.
Does the scrambler styling come with any real off-road ability?
No, the FZ X keeps street tyres and road suspension, so the styling is cosmetic; the extra ground clearance helps with rough city roads but it isn't built for real off-roading.
