On the road in Delhi the base Crossfire 500 X comes to ₹5.79 Lakh: ₹5,06,565 ex-showroom, ₹45,525 in Delhi road tax and registration (9%), ₹26,537 for first-year insurance. Dealers add handling and accessory packs on top; both are negotiable.

The 486cc liquid-cooled engine makes 46.9 bhp and 43 Nm through a 6 Speed. With a kerb weight of 190 kg that is 247 bhp per tonne, 58th best power-to-weight of the 135 bikes in this class we have reviewed.

The torque and power figures are well balanced, so it neither needs to be revved hard nor feels lazy when you do.

Chassis hardware includes USD front forks and dual-channel ABS, with a disc, 320 mm, 4 piston caliper up front and disc, 240 mm, 2 piston caliper at the rear.

At 795 mm the seat is average for the class; most riders from 5'5" up will be comfortable at stops.

On safety kit the Crossfire 500 X has dual-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. Dual-channel ABS is the one item on this list worth paying for if it is variant-dependent.

Against Crossfire 500 XC, Z650RS or Speed 400, it gets tubeless tyres that most rivals skip.

What it lacks: alloy wheels, which rivals at this price offer. None of these are deal-breakers, but they show where the money went.
