Honda Shine 125 mileage and running cost
Claimed mileage 55 kmpl, real-world 50–58 kmpl. What it costs per km, per month and over five years.
Claimed vs real mileage
Shine 125's claimed mileage is 55 kmpl, and unusually, owners and our own riding land right on it: expect 50–58 kmpl in everyday use. Few bikes get this close to their brochure figure.
Among the 21 commuter bikes we have reviewed it ranks 19th for mileage, 10 kmpl below the group average of 65 kmpl.
At Delhi's petrol price of ₹94.80 a litre and a real-world 54 kmpl, the Shine 125 costs about ₹1.76 per km in fuel. Ride 30 km a day and that is roughly ₹1,369 a month, or ₹16,432 a year, before servicing.
The 10.5-litre tank gives a realistic range of about 567 km, so a 30 km commute means a fill-up every 3 weeks.
Why the gap exists: claimed vs real-world mileage.
Monthly running cost by city
30 km a day, 26 days a month, at each city's current petrol price.
Five-year cost of ownership
Base variant bought in Delhi, 30 km a day. Servicing and insurance renewals are typical figures for the class.
- On-road purchase
- ₹95,000
- Fuel
- ₹82,160
- Servicing
- ₹17,500
- Insurance renewals
- ₹4,560
- Five-year total
- ₹1,99,220
Spread over five years and 46,800 km, the Shine 125 works out to about ₹4.3 per km all-in, of which 41% is fuel and 48% is the purchase price itself. Resale value is not counted; a nameplate this established holds value well.
Getting the best mileage
The quickest wins for the Shine 125: keep tyres at the recommended pressure (under-inflation by 5 psi can cost 2–3 kmpl), shift up early and avoid idling at long signals.
Short trips hurt most. A cold engine on a 2 km run can return half its normal mileage; if that is your use, expect the low end of the real-world band.
Service on time. A clogged air filter or old spark plug shows up in mileage before it shows up anywhere else.
