Matter AERA

The AERA is sold in 2 variants, from ₹1,82,591 for the 5000 to ₹1,93,826 for the 5000+, ex-showroom Delhi.

That makes it priced 13th lowest among the 17 electric bikes we have reviewed. Its closest price rivals are the Shockwave (₹7,591 less) and the EX2S (₹12,592 less).

On the road in Delhi the base AERA comes to ₹1.94 Lakh: ₹1,81,308 ex-showroom, ₹1,500 in Delhi road tax and registration (0.8%), ₹10,846 for first-year insurance. Dealers add handling and accessory packs on top; both are negotiable.

AERA's certified IDC range is 172 km. Owners and our own riding put the real figure between 158 and 172 km, roughly 4% under the brochure number, which is normal for an electric two-wheeler ridden in its faster modes.

Among the 17 electric bikes we have reviewed it ranks 9th for range, 7 km below the group average of 179 km.

The AERA's 11.5 kW motor is the 5rd most powerful among the 17 electric scooters here and takes it to a top speed of 105 km/h, fast enough for a ring road or short highway stretch.

A full charge from a home socket takes about 6 hours, and it supports fast charging for a quicker top-up on the road. The battery is fixed, so you need a plug where the scooter parks.

Chassis hardware includes single-channel ABS, with a disc, 270 mm, 2 piston caliper up front and disc, 220 mm, 1 piston caliper at the rear.

At 790 mm the seat is average for the class; most riders from 5'5" up will be comfortable at stops.

On safety kit the AERA has single-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. ABS acts on the front wheel only; the rear can still lock under a hard stamp.

Against Speed T4, Speed 400 or SR250, it gets single-channel abs, projector headlamp, colour tft console and bluetooth connectivity that most rivals skip.

What it lacks: dual-channel abs, rear monoshock and slipper clutch, which rivals at this price offer. The safety items in that list matter more than the console.

It is offered in 5 colours: Cosmic Blue, Cosmic Black, Nord Grey, Blaze Red and Glacier White. Colour availability varies by variant and dealer stock.

Standard warranty is 3 years, unlimited km. The battery is covered separately for 15 years; read the degradation clause, since most policies only replace a pack that drops below 70% capacity.

Matter runs a limited sales and service network in India, at roughly 20 touchpoints. Check the nearest workshop before buying if you live outside a metro; a 40 km ride for every service adds up.

The AERA launched in 2023, so long-term reliability and resale data are still thin. That is not a mark against it, just a reason to prefer the standard warranty and keep service records.
