In short

The Gixxer 250 is Suzuki's quarter-litre naked, priced from ₹1,84,538, and its 26.13bhp holds its own against the Bajaj Dominar 250 and beats the KTM 160 Duke on paper. It manages a real-world 33-36kmpl, comes with dual-channel ABS and a monoshock rear as standard, and asks buyers to give up only a little refinement for a genuinely competitive engine.

Price and variants

Ex-showroom Delhi. On-road estimate for Delhi; other cities on the price page.

The Gixxer 250 is sold in 2 variants, from ₹1,84,538 for the Standard to ₹1,87,079 for the Special Edition, ex-showroom Delhi.

That makes it priced 44th lowest among the 75 sports bikes we have reviewed. Its closest price rivals are the 160 Duke (₹953 less) and the Pulsar NS400Z (₹1,612 more).

On the road in Delhi, budget about ₹2.11 Lakh for the base variant once 8% Delhi road tax, registration and five-year third-party insurance are added. Dealers often quote higher by bundling accessories, extended warranty and handling charges; all three are negotiable.

Mileage

Gixxer 250's claimed mileage is 35 kmpl, and unusually, owners and our own riding land right on it: expect 33–36 kmpl in everyday use. Few bikes get this close to their brochure figure.

Among the 67 sports bikes we have reviewed it ranks 49th for mileage, 7 kmpl below the group average of 42 kmpl.

Engine and ride

The 249cc oil-cooled engine makes 26.13 bhp and 22.2 Nm through a 6 Speed. With a kerb weight of 156 kg that is 167 bhp per tonne, 23th best power-to-weight of the 73 bikes in this class we have reviewed.

Peak power is high relative to torque, so this engine rewards revs: it feels ordinary below the mid-range and comes alive above it.

Chassis hardware includes a rear monoshock and dual-channel ABS, with a disc, 300 mm, 2 piston caliper up front and disc, 220 mm, 1 piston caliper at the rear.

At 800 mm the seat is average for the class; most riders from 5'5" up will be comfortable at stops.

Verdict

The Gixxer 250 is the naked-bike version of Suzuki's quarter-litre platform, priced from ₹1,84,538, and it is one of the more convincing arguments in this segment because the numbers actually back it up: 26.13bhp is competitive with, and in some cases ahead of, established rivals like the KTM 160 Duke and close to the Bajaj Dominar 250.

Riding it every day

The oil-cooled 249cc engine pulls strongly through the midrange, and the 6-speed gearbox makes it easy to keep the engine in its sweet spot in city traffic or on the highway. Real-world mileage of 33-36kmpl is about what you would expect from a 250cc naked, not class-leading but not a weakness either. The dual-channel ABS and monoshock rear give it composure over Indian road imperfections and broken tarmac that a basic swingarm setup would struggle with, and the disc brakes at both ends inspire confidence in sudden braking.

What to know before buying

At 156kg it carries some weight for a single-cylinder 250, and the upright naked stance means longer highway stints are more tiring than on the faired Gixxer SF 250. The 5,000km service interval is also shorter than some rivals, meaning marginally higher running costs over time, and the 12-litre tank means fuel stops every 350-400km at typical mileage.

Who should buy it

Riders wanting a naked 250cc streetfighter for weekend highway runs and daily commuting alike should shortlist the Gixxer 250, especially if outright power matters more than fairing-based wind protection. Buyers wanting a more relaxed commute should look at the Dominar 250 instead, which trades a little agility for more low-end torque.

Features and colours

  • Dual-channel ABS
  • Front disc brake
  • Rear disc brake
  • Tubeless tyres
  • Alloy wheels
  • Side-stand engine cut-off
  • Hazard lamps
  • Rear monoshock
  • LED headlamp
  • LED tail lamp
  • +4 more

On safety kit the Gixxer 250 has dual-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. Dual-channel ABS is the one item on this list worth paying for if it is variant-dependent.

Against Dominar 250, Xtreme 250R or 200 Duke, it gets hazard lamps that most rivals skip.

What it lacks: usd front forks, slipper clutch, led daytime running lamp and usb charging port, which rivals at this price offer. None of these are deal-breakers, but they show where the money went.

It is offered in 5 colours: Met. Triton Blue / Pearl Glacier White, Pearl Glacier White/Metallic Mat Platinum Silver, Glass Sparkle Black, Metallic Matte Black and Met. Mat Black / Met. Mat Bordeaux Red. Colour availability varies by variant and dealer stock.

Warranty, service and ownership

Standard warranty is 2 years or 30,000 km. After the free services, the recommended interval is every 5,000 km.

Suzuki runs a limited sales and service network in India, at roughly 1,200 touchpoints. Check the nearest workshop before buying if you live outside a metro; a 40 km ride for every service adds up.

On sale since 2019, the Gixxer 250 is established enough that early production issues have been worked through and used examples give a fair read on resale.
