Engine and ride
The 100cc air-cooled engine makes 4.29 bhp and 6.5 Nm through a CVT automatic. With a kerb weight of 89 kg that is 48 bhp per tonne, the lowest power-to-weight ratio of the 25 scooters in this class we have reviewed.
Torque is high relative to peak power, which is what you want for pulling away with a pillion and riding a gear higher in traffic rather than chasing the redline.
Seat height is a low 781 mm, so riders around 5'2" and above can plant both feet at a stop.

Verdict
The XL 100 occupies an unusual spot in TVS's line-up, part moped, part scooter, built for utility and low running costs rather than everyday scooter comfort. Priced from ₹60,360 with i-Touch electric start and a claimed 55kmpl, it makes sense as a workhorse but not much else, given the 4.29bhp output and drum brakes at both ends.
Riding it every day
At 89kg it's genuinely light and easy to push around or manage at low speeds, which matters more here than outright refinement. The 58kmph top speed and modest power mean this is strictly a neighbourhood and short-trip vehicle, not something for main roads or flyovers. The idle start-stop system is a small but useful addition for saving fuel in heavy traffic.
What to know before buying
The claimed 55kmpl and the real-world band of 51-57kmpl in the brief are close together, suggesting the figure is reasonably achievable in typical use. The 3-year, 36,000km warranty is shorter than TVS's commuter bikes, so factor that into long-term ownership costs, and note the fuel tank holds just 4 litres, meaning more frequent refuelling stops.
