In short

The Ducati DesertX is an off-road-focused adventure bike with a 937cc L-twin making 108.6 bhp and 92 Nm, priced from ₹19.59 lakh to ₹25.34 lakh across three variants. It has genuine rally-bike specification, including 250 mm ground clearance, but an 875 mm seat height puts it out of reach for shorter riders.

What works

  • 250 mm ground clearance and a 21-inch front wheel for real off-roading
  • 108.6 bhp with a fully adjustable KYB suspension setup
  • 21-litre tank supports genuine long-distance touring
  • Dual-channel ABS, traction control and multiple ride modes

What doesn't

  • 875 mm seat height is tall even by adventure-bike standards
  • 223 kg kerb weight is a lot to manage off-road
  • Ducati's service network outside metros is limited

Best for: Off-road touring, Tall riders, Long-distance adventure trips

Price and variants

Ex-showroom Delhi list prices from the manufacturer. On-road for your city is in the panel above.

The DesertX is sold in 3 variants, from ₹19,59,200 for the Standard to ₹25,33,700 for the Rally, ex-showroom Delhi.

That makes it priced 27th lowest among the 33 adventure bikes we have reviewed. Its closest price rivals are the Tiger 1200 (₹20,200 less) and the Tuareg 660 (₹55,304 more).

On the road in Delhi the base DesertX comes to ₹22.05 Lakh: ₹19,59,200 ex-showroom, ₹1,68,736 in Delhi road tax and registration (8.6%), ₹57,135 for first-year insurance and ₹19,592 in tcs 1%. Dealers add handling and accessory packs on top; both are negotiable.

Mileage

The DesertX is rated at 17.8 kmpl (claimed mileage). Treat that as a ceiling: real-world figures are usually 15–25% lower.

Engine and ride

The 937cc liquid-cooled engine makes 108.6 bhp and 92 Nm through a 6 Speed. With a kerb weight of 223 kg that is 487 bhp per tonne, 7th best power-to-weight of the 33 bikes in this class we have reviewed.

Peak power is high relative to torque, so this engine rewards revs: it feels ordinary below the mid-range and comes alive above it.

Chassis hardware includes USD front forks, a rear monoshock, dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch and traction control, with a disc, 320 mm, 4 piston caliper up front and disc, 265 mm, 2 piston caliper at the rear.

The 875 mm seat is on the tall side. Riders under 5'6" should sit on one before buying.

Verdict

The Ducati DesertX commits fully to its rally-raid brief: a 937cc L-twin making 108.6 bhp, 250 mm of ground clearance, a 21-inch front wheel and fully adjustable KYB suspension. At ₹19.59 lakh to start, it asks a serious premium over mainstream adventure bikes for genuine off-road capability most owners will rarely use fully.

Riding it every day

The 875 mm seat height is the first thing every rider notices, and it stays noticeable at every traffic light and in every tight parking manoeuvre through Indian cities. Once moving, the 223 kg weight disappears into the chassis's balance, and the 21-litre tank means fuel stops are infrequent even on long highway stretches. The fully adjustable suspension soaks up speed breakers and broken roads better than most adventure bikes at this price, a real advantage on Indian roads.

What to know before buying

Ducati's dealer network thins out considerably outside major metros, so factor in service access before committing to regular long-distance riding on this bike. Running costs for a 937cc L-twin sit well above single- or twin-cylinder rivals from mainstream brands, and tyres suited to serious off-roading are not cheap or always locally stocked. Compare directly against the BMW F 900 GS Adventure and Aprilia Tuareg 660 on total ownership cost, not just the on-road capability.

Who should buy it

A tall, experienced rider who genuinely intends to ride off-road and tour long distances, and who is prepared for Ducati ownership costs. Shorter riders or those wanting a bike mainly for city use should look at less extreme adventure options instead.

Features

  • Dual-channel ABS
  • Front disc brake
  • Rear disc brake
  • Tubeless tyres
  • Traction control
  • Side-stand engine cut-off
  • Hazard lamps
  • USD front forks
  • Rear monoshock
  • Slipper clutch
  • +11 more

On safety kit the DesertX has dual-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, traction control, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. Dual-channel ABS is the one item on this list worth paying for if it is variant-dependent.

Against Tuareg 660, F 900 GS Adventure or 890 Adventure R, it gets projector headlamp that most rivals skip.

It is offered in 3 colours: Star White Silk, Rally and Thrilling Black and Ducati Red. Colour availability varies by variant and dealer stock.

Warranty, service and ownership

Standard warranty is 2 years, unlimited km.

Ducati runs a limited sales and service network in India, at roughly 15 touchpoints. Check the nearest workshop before buying if you live outside a metro; a 40 km ride for every service adds up.

On sale since 2022, the DesertX is established enough that early production issues have been worked through and used examples give a fair read on resale.

DesertX: questions people ask

What is the price of the Ducati DesertX?
The DesertX costs between ₹19,59,200 and ₹25,33,700 ex-showroom Delhi across 3 variants, as of September 2026. On-road price adds road tax, registration and insurance and varies by state.
What is the on-road price of the DesertX in Delhi?
About ₹22.05 Lakh for the base variant in Delhi: ₹19,59,200 ex-showroom plus ₹1,68,736 in Delhi road tax and registration and ₹57,135 for first-year insurance, with ₹19,592 of dealer charges. Figure from dealer quotes, updated monthly; handling and accessory packs can add more.
What is the mileage of the DesertX?
Claimed mileage is 17.8 kmpl. Real-world figures are usually 15–25% lower.
How much does the DesertX cost to run per month?
Fuel works out to about ₹5.33 per km in Delhi, so a 30 km daily commute costs roughly ₹4,154 a month before servicing.
What is the EMI for the DesertX?
With 10% down, a 36-month loan at 9.5% on the base variant comes to about ₹62,130 a month. A shorter tenure raises the EMI but cuts total interest; see the EMI calculator on the price page.
What is the engine capacity and power of the DesertX?
It uses a 937cc engine producing 108.6 bhp and 92 Nm, with a 6 speed.
Is the DesertX suitable for short riders?
It is on the tall side at 875 mm. Riders under 5'6" may be on tiptoe at stops and should try it before buying.
DesertX or Tuareg 660: which is better?
The Tuareg 660 is ₹55,304 more expensive to start. Pick the DesertX for off-road touring, the Tuareg 660 for serious off-road touring. Our side-by-side comparison covers every spec.
Which bikes are cheaper than the DesertX?
Among the 33 adventure bikes we have reviewed, the Adventure (₹2.08 Lakh), the Xpulse 200 4V (₹1.45 Lakh), the Himalayan 450 (₹3.08 Lakh) start lower.
Is the DesertX too tall for a 5'6" rider?
At 875 mm, the seat height will have most riders under 5'7" or so on tiptoes at a stop, so a test sit is essential before buying. Some riders manage with careful footing and the bike's relatively narrow midsection, but it is genuinely tall for the class.
Can the DesertX handle two-up highway rides?
It has a proper pillion setup and the 21-litre tank supports long stints, so two-up highway touring is realistic, though the firm rally-tuned suspension transmits more road texture than a dedicated touring adventure bike. Expect a capable but not plush experience for the passenger.
