River Indie

The Indie comes in a single variant at ₹1,52,600 ex-showroom Delhi, so there is no trim ladder to climb: every Indie leaves the showroom with the same equipment.

That makes it priced 43th lowest among the 56 electric scooters we have reviewed. Its closest price rivals are the Tesseract (₹7,600 less) and the BG RUV 350 (₹8,610 less).

On the road in Delhi the base Indie comes to ₹1.56 Lakh: ₹1,47,499 ex-showroom, ₹1,500 in Delhi road tax and registration (1%), ₹7,097 for first-year insurance. Dealers add handling and accessory packs on top; both are negotiable.

Indie's certified IDC range is 161 km. Owners and our own riding put the real figure between 120 and 137 km, roughly 20% under the brochure number, which is normal for an electric two-wheeler ridden in its faster modes.

Among the 56 electric scooters we have reviewed it ranks 13th for range, 24 km above the group average of 137 km.

The Indie's 6.7 kW motor is the 16rd most powerful among the 48 electric scooters here and takes it to a top speed of 90 km/h, comfortable for city and arterial roads.

A full charge from a home socket takes about 6 hours, and it supports fast charging for a quicker top-up on the road. The battery is fixed, so you need a plug where the scooter parks.

Chassis hardware includes a combi-brake system, with a disc, 240 mm, 3 piston caliper up front and disc, 200 mm, 1 piston caliper at the rear.

Seat height is a low 770 mm, so riders around 5'2" and above can plant both feet at a stop.

On safety kit the Indie has combi-brake (cbs), front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. There is no ABS, which is legal at this engine size but worth knowing before a wet-weather ride.

What it lacks: hill hold, colour tft console and turn-by-turn navigation, which rivals at this price offer. None of these are deal-breakers, but they show where the money went.

It is offered in 5 colours: Storm Grey, Winter White, Spring Yellow, Monsoon Blue and Summer Red. Colour availability varies by variant and dealer stock.

Standard warranty is 3 years, unlimited km. The battery is covered separately for 3 years or 30,000 km; read the degradation clause, since most policies only replace a pack that drops below 70% capacity.

River runs a limited sales and service network in India, at roughly 30 touchpoints. Check the nearest workshop before buying if you live outside a metro; a 40 km ride for every service adds up.

The Indie launched in 2023, so long-term reliability and resale data are still thin. That is not a mark against it, just a reason to prefer the standard warranty and keep service records.
