Price and variants

Ex-showroom Delhi. On-road estimate for Delhi; other cities on the price page.

The 890 Adventure R comes in a single variant at ₹15,80,000 ex-showroom Delhi, so there is no trim ladder to climb: every 890 Adventure R leaves the showroom with the same equipment.

That makes it priced 13th lowest among the 14 adventure bikes we have reviewed. Its closest price rivals are the Transalp XL750 (₹2,60,000 less) and the V-Strom 800 DE (₹4,78,459 less).

On the road in Delhi, budget about ₹17.51 Lakh for the base variant once 8% Delhi road tax, registration and five-year third-party insurance are added. Dealers often quote higher by bundling accessories, extended warranty and handling charges; all three are negotiable.

Mileage

The 890 Adventure R is rated at 22.2 kmpl (claimed mileage). Treat that as a ceiling: real-world figures are usually 15–25% lower.

Among the 12 adventure bikes we have reviewed it ranks 11th for mileage, 6 kmpl below the group average of 28 kmpl.

Engine and ride

The 889cc liquid-cooled engine makes 103 bhp and 100 Nm through a 6 Speed. With a kerb weight of 215 kg that is 479 bhp per tonne, second best power-to-weight of the 14 bikes in this class we have reviewed.

The torque and power figures are well balanced, so it neither needs to be revved hard nor feels lazy when you do.

Chassis hardware includes USD front forks, dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch and traction control, with a disc, 320 mm, 4 piston caliper up front and disc, 260 mm, 2 piston caliper at the rear.

The 880 mm seat is on the tall side. Riders under 5'6" should sit on one before buying.

Verdict

The 890 Adventure R is KTM's off-road-focused big adventure bike, a fully imported 889cc twin making 103bhp, priced from ₹15,80,000. It is built for riders who actually intend to take an adventure bike off-road, not just look the part.

Riding it every day

At 215kg with 263mm of ground clearance, it manages rough trails, gravel, and broken roads with real confidence, and the WP XPLOR long-travel suspension soaks up terrain that would unsettle a road-focused ADV. The 880mm seat height and off-road-biased ergonomics mean it feels most at home standing on the pegs or covering varied terrain, less so threading through dense city traffic. Dual-channel ABS with a switchable off-road mode is a genuine practical touch for loose surfaces.

What to know before buying

As a CBU import, the ₹15,80,000 price and 22.2kmpl claimed mileage both sit well above locally assembled alternatives, so factor in higher upfront and running costs. The tall seat height demands confidence, particularly for shorter riders, and off-road suspension settings can feel firm on smooth tarmac. Service and parts support concentrate at KTM's larger dealerships, worth checking against your usual touring routes.

Who should buy it

Riders who genuinely plan to ride off-road, not just want the styling, and can absorb the import pricing, are the honest buyers; those wanting adventure looks for mostly tarmac use are better served by KTM's 390 Adventure range.

Features and colours

On safety kit the 890 Adventure R has dual-channel abs, front disc brake, rear disc brake, tubeless tyres, traction control, side-stand engine cut-off and hazard lamps. Dual-channel ABS is the one item on this list worth paying for if it is variant-dependent.

Against V-Strom 800 DE, it gets tubeless tyres, bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation that the rival does not.

What it lacks: projector headlamp, which the rival offers. None of these are deal-breakers, but they show where the money went.

It is offered in 2 colours: Black and Orange. Colour availability varies by variant and dealer stock.

Warranty, service and ownership

Standard warranty is 2 years or 50,000 km.

KTM runs a limited sales and service network in India, at roughly 500 touchpoints. Check the nearest workshop before buying if you live outside a metro; a 40 km ride for every service adds up.

The 890 Adventure R launched in 2024, so long-term reliability and resale data are still thin. That is not a mark against it, just a reason to prefer the standard warranty and keep service records.

Can the 890 Adventure R be used as a daily commuter?
It can be, but its off-road-biased suspension, tall seat, and 22.2kmpl mileage make it a less practical daily choice than a road-focused bike; it is better suited to riders who genuinely use its off-road ability regularly.
