SR 160's claimed mileage is 35 kmpl, and unusually, owners and our own riding land right on it: expect 33–36 kmpl in everyday use. Few bikes get this close to their brochure figure.
Engine and ride
The 160cc air-cooled engine makes 11.11 bhp and 13.44 Nm through a CVT automatic. With a kerb weight of 118 kg that is 94 bhp per tonne, 8th best power-to-weight of the 36 scooters in this class we have reviewed.
Torque is high relative to peak power, which is what you want for pulling away with a pillion and riding a gear higher in traffic rather than chasing the redline.
Chassis hardware includes single-channel ABS, with a disc, 220 mm, 2 piston caliper up front and drum, 140 mm at the rear.
Seat height is a low 780 mm, so riders around 5'2" and above can plant both feet at a stop.

Verdict
The SR 160 sits above the SR 125 as Aprilia's quicker 160cc scooter, with a claimed 100kmph top speed that makes it feel noticeably livelier off the line and through traffic gaps. At ₹1.21 lakh onwards it costs more than the 125 and trails the newer SR 175 on efficiency, which makes its position in the range a little awkward.
Riding it every day
The extra displacement and 11.11bhp translate into quicker overtakes and a more confident feel at higher speeds compared with the 125cc SR, which matters if your commute involves stretches of open road. Around town, the 118kg kerb weight and 780mm seat height keep it easy to manage, and the front disc with single-channel ABS gives reasonable stopping confidence in the wet. Real-world mileage of 33-36kmpl is acceptable but noticeably behind the smaller-engined SR 125, so expect more frequent fuel stops if you commute long distances daily.
What to know before buying
As with the rest of the SR range, service intervals are short at 3,000km, and Aprilia's dealer count is smaller than mainstream rivals, so check availability in your city. The rear drum brake at this price point is a step behind some 160cc rivals that offer a rear disc.
Who should buy it
Choose the SR 160 if you specifically want more top-end pace than the SR 125 and do not mind the mileage trade-off. Buyers focused purely on running costs should look at the SR 125, and those wanting both pace and better efficiency should cross-shop the newer SR 175 before deciding.
